Housing Options

There are a number of options for housing and accommodation for people with disabilities.  These range from Community Residential Support Services which are funded by Whaikaha and enable disabled people to live in a home-like setting within their community while receiving support for up to 24 hours a day.  There are also state, community or council housing options, or you might consider renting, flatting or buying your own home. Your options will depend on your personal situation.

Funding for Home Modifications

You can make changes to your home to make it more accessible and easier to live in.

If you need modifications to your home, you may be eligible for funding from Whaikaha - Ministry of Disabled People.  The type of modifications the Ministry can help fund for your home will depend on your disability-related needs and your situation.

Sometimes modifying your home may not be the best or only option for you. For example, you may find another home that better suits your needs.

Future-proof your home for accessibility

Future-proof your home for accessibility

Future proofing your home to make it more accessible is an important consideration for many. This means that if your mobility becomes impaired, you can still get around your home. It also means your home is accessible to visitors with mobility impairments and future owners who may have a mobility impairment.
